With all those phones, Im making a Xylophone Phone! Built for Dan Flannery, of Flannery Brothers fame, it is going to actually be playable instrument made out of phone receivers hacked up with piezo’s and wired to a microcontroller.
Each phone is hooked with a phone jack that is wired to a piezo disc that is glued down inside the receiver. I really wanted to use the original phone chords for this part but when you cut them open the copper wire is stranded with with this elastic fiber that makes soldering it a nightmare. I got lucky in that I had a lot of these chasis mount RCA jacks that fit perfectly in the square RJ11 hole. Thank you to Jonathan Kirithiran for these great piezo discs (pro tip: Scratch first, solder second) and Laurence Bond for help getting more phones.
